Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)

Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) provides a managed environment for deploying, managing, and scaling applications in your container using Google's infrastructure. A GKE environment consists of multiple machines (specifically Compute Engine instances) grouped together to form a cluster.

GKE clusters are powered by the open source cluster management system Kubernetes. Kubernetes provides the mechanisms through which you interact with your cluster. You use Kubernetes commands and resources to deploy and manage your applications, perform administrative tasks, set policies, and monitor the health of your deployed workloads.

When you use GKE, you also get the benefit of advanced cluster management features that Google Cloud Platform provide. Including:

  • Get started quickly and simply with clusters and scale up to 15000 nodes.
  • Leverage a highly available control plane that includes multi-zone and zone clusters.
  • Eliminate operational costs with the industry's first four-way automated scaling and release channels.
  • Security by default, including container image vulnerability scanning and data encryption.
  • Integrated cloud monitoring with Kubernetes-specific infrastructure, applications, and views.
