Update interface and new features on Google Meet
What’s changing
Google is adding additional performance notifications and recommendations to help users troubleshoot and improve the quality of their Google Meet calls. Specifically, we are adding:
- Gentle notifications: When Meet detects a performance issue that is affecting call quality, you'll see a notification bubble describing the issue and a red dot on the “More options” menu. From the “More options” menu, users can select “Troubleshooting and help” to find more information about the problem and troubleshooting instructions.
When Google Meet detects a performance issue, you'll see a notification bubble and a red dot on the “More options” menu.
- Tailored troubleshooting recommendations: Based on detected performance issues, users will now see personalized recommendations on how to improve their call quality. This can be useful in situations where a reduction in available processing resources is affecting call quality, such as your device automatically reducing CPU speed to extend battery life.
- Act fast: You'll also see changes with one click, which can quickly reduce Meet's resource consumption. These might include toggling settings to use less CPU or network bandwidth, or adding closed captioning to aid audio understanding.

Why it’s important
Network and CPU usage metrics are now available to users by going to More options > Troubleshooting and help. There, users will find a general list of recommendations – now, users will see a dynamic list of recommendations based on:
- Battery level,
- Bandwidth and network connection,
- Whether the user is presenting or not and more.
These changes will help alert users when there are problems with the quality of their meetings and provide them with helpful suggestions to improve their call experience.
