Feature to save photos to Google Photos directly from Gmail
What’s changing
Now, when you receive a photo attachment in a Gmail message, you can save it directly to Google Photos using the new “Save to Photos” button. You'll see it next to the existing “Add to Drive” button on attachments and while previewing image attachments. Currently, this feature is only available for JPEG images.

Why you’d use it
This new feature saves you from having to download photo attachments from Gmail messages to then manually back them up to Google Photos.
Getting started
- Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.
- End users: This feature will be ON by default. For eligible photos, you can select the “Save to Photo” button along with the same option as “Add to Drive”. Visit the Help Center to learn more about uploading files and folders to Google Drive.
Rollout pace
Rapid and scheduled release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting May 26, 2021
Availability
Available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers. Also available to users with personal Google Accounts.
